Thursday, February 12, 1998

In attendance:

Michael Becich
Linda Kamzelski
Bernadette Marshalek
Sabra McConnell
Debra Somerhalder
Ron Perry
Barbara Schmid
Mary Pat Traversari

The discussion centered around the following items:

  1. Dr. Becich introduced one of our new board members, Bernadette Marshalek, and gave her an overview of our board.
  2. E-mail addresses are still needed for Hank McCarthy and Bud Trimmer so we can keep them up to date on our activities.
  3. Logos for MinerMiracles and Black Box need to be placed on our home page.
  4. Training has been going well. As of this date, 50 parents have been trained on the internet. From these parents we have developed a list of volunteers to help the children with their internet projects. Bradford Woods has also had two 12-hour after school classes for the community with a total participation of 30. More classes are to be scheduled for March and April. A suggestion was made to hand out promotional materials from Nauticom in order to strengthen our partnership with them.
  5. Dr. Becich stated that fund raising will continue. At this point we need to decide if BW is going under the district umbrella for fund raising or if BW should continue to fund raise as an individual school. As one of the perks of contributing to our project, we would offer availability of the lab to participating businesses.
  6. Dr. Bozzomo has agreed to fund the T1 line through June.
  7. Nauticom has advised us that we must change the IP addresses on all of our computers. The router must also be changed and Fang He will help us with this task. We must complete this task by February 23rd. They have also cut our accounts from 256 to 64. Dr. Becich is checking to see if we can get more accounts - possibly 128.
  8. The server for the North Allegheny School District arrived yesterday. The Foundation for Excellence has given a grant of $4,000 for the purpose of getting the server up and running. Bradford Woods will move their files onto the NA server. Our ISP address will be www.bwe.org. North Allegheny students will be responsible for maintaining our home page. At the present a NASH GOAL student will work on it. Another possibility would be for the students at NAI and NASH to work on it in their respective computer classes.
  9. The Hewlett Packard grant is on hold pending further discussions between Reed Powell and Mike Becich.
  10. There was a discussion about putting in a repeater hub for 1C, Kindergarten and the GOAL room. We also need to wire our Reading Lab, Learning Support and Speech rooms. Dr. Becich will contact Cable Design for cables and Linda Kamzelski will ask American Cable Company to install at a cheaper rate due to the jobs at the middle schools.
  11. Times and dates for the June staff development class with DFD will be set up to train teachers on web page design.
  12. The following service donations have been submitted to the board:

Black Box$3,500 (the CSU/DSU and the Cisco router)
DFD Info Sys.$25,000 (WWW design, programming, network support, misc.)
Fore Systems$7,000 (the 3810 and some miscellaneous support)
MinerMiracles$520 (internet teaching & materials WWW updates, support)
Nauticom$25,000 (termination of the T1 & about 80North Pittsburgh accounts plus support)
Systems, Inc.$500 (waived fee for T1 installation)
PC Solutions$14,000 (80 hours @$175/hr. for network support)
    TOTAL$75,520

  13. The next board meeting will be scheduled at a later date.
