Opening remarks and introductions were provided by Debra Somerhalder, Building Principal. Dr. Michael Becich, began the presentations with a brief history of the development of the internet, its uses, and associated technology. He also provided some background information regarding the development of the project here at Bradford Woods Elementary. The second phase of the program focused on the present uses and potential uses of the internet at the school for children and teachers. Amy Groetsch, 5th grade teacher began with examples of sites that are available for teachers and classroom use. Dr. Ron Perry, District Math/Science Resource Associate, shared a couple sites that provide students and teachers with information for the delivery of instruction. Sabra McConnell, parent, shared the perspectives for parents regarding the availability of the internet and helping the school develop this project. Barb Schmid, school librarian, provided information on how students are presently using e-mail capabilities to communicate with other people around the world. Dave Edmunds provided information as to how children are and will be protected from undesirable experiences with the internet. Dr. Becich completed the evening's presentation with a description of the GreenHouse Concept. He described how additional funding will allow the school site can be developed to help support other community stakeholders including local businesses and industry. Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions. |
