Advantages - Direct connection, more choice of searching tools, one monthly fee, technical support has developed and become better, many local access numbers, data compression to increase speed of modem, unrestricted access to Internet, growth of company indicates improvement of services.

Disadvantages - Software may be difficult to configure and requires some knowledge, relatively expensive for the casual user, connection during peak hours is difficult, technical support, while improving, can still be frustrating.

Recommendation - For anyone with some background and a desire to acquire all the services of the Internet this is a good choice.

Step #1 - Finding your local dial up access number
Locate your local dial up access number from our list or contact Nauticom at 449-4600 (North Pittsburgh), 487-5855 (Pittsburgh) or 1-800-746-6283 (remote areas). As always please contact your telephone company's operator by pressing "0" 011 your phone and double checking to be sure that this number is local for you to dial.

Step #2 - Setting up your terminal software
Nauticom uses online registration to start your account. You will need to have a PC and a modem available to dial in and connect to us. You should set your terminal software to 8 bits, No Parity, and i Stop bit. Change the emulation to VT100. If VT100 is not available select the next highest number (ie. VT1O2). Next select the option 011 your terminal package to dial, and enter in your local dial up access number. You will 110W connect to Nauticom.

Step #3 - Starting the registration
Once connected to Nauticom you will receive a "LOGIN:" prompt. Enter in "new" in all lower case. You will then be prompted with a "PASSWORD:" prompt in which case you should then press your RETURN or ENTER key.

Step 4 - The registration system
Follow the instructions that you will receive from our system. You will receive your new user pack full of information in about 2-3 working days. Once you receive your new user pack you will be able to start service.
